Vegan Cheeseburger Sliders with Carmelized Onions 🍔 — Impossible vs Beyond Recipe Taste Test

I've been spinning my wheels making these burger sliders so that I can do this taste test to see which of my favorite plant meat is better for this recipe. 3 of the burgers I made using Impossible meat. One I made using Beyond. And the last one I made using an equal blend of the two (the best of both worlds really!). So what’s the verdict?

Before making these and when they were just a concept, I thought for sure the Beyond would win the taste test in this combination. But man, I was wrong. In fact, and much to my surprise, Impossible wins this one. My reaction upon biting into the Impossible was "wow".

And btw, this is a seriously delicious recipe. Carmelizing the onions is the most time consuming part but it’s well worth the effort. Serve this to your friends and family and they will be impressed. Scroll down for the recipe.

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Cook Time: 15-20 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • Impossible Meat

  • Mini Burger Buns

  • 1 whole onion -- thinly sliced

  • Balsamic Vinegar Glaze from Trader Joe's or another of your choice

  • Chao Cheese by Field Roast or vegan cheese of your choice

  • Microgreens

  • Burger or steak seasoning

  • Taco Seasoning from Trader Joe's (optional but helps to add a bit of a kick and add some nice flavor)

  • Vegan butter - about 1 tbsp

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Lightly toast your buns. Do this however you want but I like to spray the outside and inside of my buns with oil and lightly toast them on a heated pan. Set aside.

  2. Caramelize the onions. In a skillet heat throw in the onions and butter and saute until caramelized. Set aside once done.

  3. While the onions are caramelizing, shape the burger patties into small disks to fit the size of your buns.

  4. In an heated and oiled skillet or grill cook the burger patties on medium to medium high heat. Sprinkle with burger or steak seasoning and some taco seasoning as well on one side only.

  5. While the patties are cooking, use scissors and trim your cheese down to fit the patties. Place them on top of the patties and put the lid on the skillet to melt the cheese. If it doesn't melt fast enough you can always put the patties in the microwave and melt them.

  6. Assemble the burger in this suggested order: bottom bun, microgreens, burger patty, cheese, caramelized onions, drizzle on the vinaigrette glaze, top bun.
